according to Soul Pattinson "in late 1968 Soul Pattinson decided to take over Deposit & Investment Co. Ltd. which was the first finance company in Australia and in which it already had a major investment. To purchase Deposit & Investment Co. Ltd. a placement of one million shares was made through members of The Sydney Stock Exchange at $12 per share. This was not an issue to shareholders"
